Feb 8-10, 2019 Weekend Ride and Trail Report

Just enough rain to be a pain in the ass is in store for the weekend and next week. A bit cold for most of NorCal, at least for my tastes.

    I need fenders.

Photos and trail reports are appreciated.

I was going to ride this morning but a combination of too lazy to get out of bed, still being tired from yesterday's ride, and stress about having an audit next week kept me snuggled under the sheets. Ughh probably a wasted opportunity to ride for awhile but oh well.

I'll be in SoCal next week and plan on hitting Los Penasquitos Canyon on Saturday via rental from North of the Border. Anyone ever ride there? Any recommendations for 15-20 mile ride?

I have eyeballed a few Trailforks ridelogs I'll follow if I don't hear and recommendations.

One thing i noticed was that certain models are predicting that we'll receive less than an inch of rain over the next 3 days. This leads me to think that there could be dry windows for the next 3 days. And chances are you might get wet..

I went for a run instead yesterday... nice for a change of pace and enjoy some trails I can't bike on. (in the proper part of Henry Cowell)

Any thoughts on John Nicholas tomorrow?

    Dreaming of riding
Feb 8-10, 2019 Weekend Ride and Trail Report-img_20190208_212131338.jpg

Dreaming of getting my new frame and fork together. I dropped off my frame and headset at the shop near the end of the day and they were awesome to stay a bit late to get it done. Tomorrow is a build day!

Feb 8-10, 2019 Weekend Ride and Trail Report-image.jpgSt Joseph Hills!!!

I m at the top now, downtube is clean, tires are cleaner than when i started. It is still moist, but the sand and gravels are awesome and thats what makes it rideable. Some minor puddling.

Get it before this afternoon’s rain.

Perfect day to ride in Fort Ord/Creekside. All the trails were in great shape with the exception of the Goat Trail.

11 miles of mixed dirt / bike paths with my son. We both practiced our wheelies and manuals. Making progress!

Caught the moto ripping up some of the local park trails so I ripped him a new one. Took his pic and told him next time we’ll see what the cops think. He looked scared shitless. Hopefully that will put an end to that. If he was just riding them I wouldn’t care but no he has to burn out every 3 feet and absolutely destroy every little berm / bump along with spinning broadies every 10 feet or so. Told the kid, you’re doing the EXACT things that are why they made this area illegal to motos (used to be non-posted / blind eye). It’s like they can’t help themselves and must use their motor to rip up everything.

Anyways, rant over. It was nice to get out and the bikes only took light spray down to clean the mud. Surprisingly the trails (dirt next to roads and parks) were actually in pretty good shape with little standing water.

Please don’t, rain last night in Oakland was crazy. It is going to need a few days before rideable.

You can really feel the micro climate kick in about 1/2 way up on the way to Skyline.

    Rideable, absolutely. Dry, no.

UConn still didn’t have any soft mud but was getting slimy throughout the day. There are large puddles on the road. If you pick the DH’s wisely, they should be great traction tomorrow.

Edit: there was some mud at the very bottom on Uconn, but nothing that will leave a mark. Other than on your drivetrain...

ha, i think you lapped us twice on saturday! +1, if you choose carefully, plenty of non-muddy options!

Nice! I rode from 8am-3pm on Saturday, legs were definitely feeling it this morning. Saturday had some cool fog conditions.
