Donner Lake Trails - Info needed

    Greetings.
Found out we're going to be staying at the lake this upcoming 4th. Should be fun but I'd like to bring my bike so I can get away for a couple of hours.
Its been a few years since I last stayed at Donner so need some pointers on some trails that would be ridable from the lake. I really do not want to drive somewhere in the car.
If I remember correctly there might be some stuff off the old summit road at the top. I also remember something like the Coldstream trail up off the railroad tracks but supposedly that's all fireroad? I'd rather have some single track exploration.

Anyway.... help a fella out with some ideas...web links to maps etc.

You are sooo close to HITG, its just a short ride....

I'm pretty sure I read abotu a ride up there in the 100 best trails of northern california book. I'll go check when I get home later tonight.

I have to agree with the other poster about HITG. You could always start, or climb to the old summit, shoot down towards Norden, hang a right at the hydro building, climb up to Boreal, ride HITG, climb back on Norden Rd. to old summit, then back down to where you are staying. I think HITG is about a 17 mile loop, so maybe add on about 12 miles of additional rode riding. Would be a great ride. Just a thought.

I've done HITG before. Its a great ride. But that might be beyond my "escape time" from the family mayhem. (I'll keep it in mind though). That would be a good work out to start from Donner.... hmmmm
The other ideas I've found: A short drive to Tahoe and do the Stanford Rock loop or maybe find the Emigrant Gap trail.

I totally understand the family mayhem deal while on vacation. Another idea, which Radair took me up on and checked out and enjoyed last year, is to take 267 towards N*, park at Brockway summit, and go either direction on the TRT. East takes you towards Mt Rose Wilderness area for about a 3-4 miles climb. Very nice with some killer views. West takes you towards Tahoe City/Watson Lake area. Really sweet trail either way, and you don't have to be gone too long. Have fun.
