Demo Forest Ride - Monday, April 15.

    10am.

This is the ride after Otter. Big industry thing. We are local so we try to prepare food and drink for the out of towners. Let me know if you can make it.

    I have a special surprise!

    MBOSC will be there.

Flow is closed right now til the weekend for sure. Luckily, we have Braille and Corral. There's repair work happening too on the 14th.

April 15, we shall see what the tide brings us.

Big lot across the bridge. We'll ride on Highland road and go around and climb Aptos Creek Road to the top of Demo.

I mentioned in the weekend ride report that Cusack has a lot of mud especially at the top just past the rocky climb. There's a big tree down at the start of Corral flow.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

It looks good for me to make it with my old rig. Unless anyone has an ebike I can "demo" to compensate for the jacked up left leg. Wait, maybe someone can loan me their left leg for a day?

    Should I bring anything?

Don't worry, you can ride with us injured folk. We say "we have to stop to rest the injury" but we have beer stashed in strategic places on the climb. It's 5 o'clock somewhere

Oh cool. maybe 2 laps for me today.

oddly, Fezzari or Spec would not let me keep the e demo bikes all weekend + today.

The face is healed, but the chronic nerve/disc/hip thing is still around.

Thanks everyone for the great post-ride party. I am the one who rode with the two guys from Singapore.

I should reserve the Monday after Sea Otter as a personal holiday for next year

As the kids like to say - The Stoke Was High!!

We got lucky and had perfect conditions and weather. The crew was awesome! Everyone from the locals to the out of towners from Germany, France, Canada, So Cal and Singapore. Lots of fast riders. Everyone was super friendly and very pumped to be riding these great conditions with great people! The food and drink after the ride was a perfect ending to a fun day.

For some reason I was only able to upload these two pictures. Im sure there will be more posted.

I hope I can make one of these events. It's a multi day trip though so probably gonna be a long shot. I rode once last year and enjoyed it.

Need some fitness first, the 4500' climbing isn't an option right now.

On Sunday afternoon, met a new friend from France who wanted to ride Santa Cruz the next morning . Didnít have a bike though. Oh, and there were three of them. Oh and one was beginner.

Challenge accepted. What commenced was perfection. Their smiles and stoke was the highlight of the weekend. Sharing what we have is golden. We try because once in a while, we get it right.

Rode Demo Tues after the rain. Even with the little bit of rain Monday night made the place a sloppy mess. The ground is still so saturated

I got the new Hutchinson All Mountain tires called the Griffus. It looks so awesome, finally. Their tires have always been so small and xc.

    I'm installing them today.

Cool. Looks quite DHF-ey with holey knobs and slightly less channel. Should have good traction in the loam.

NOT implying that I could ride anywhere near that, but very cool to see a rider like you with drops handling braille, so interesting in learning more.

No dropper... Old school quick release. A lot of times i say f--k it and ride
it at full roadie height. I've got other bikes but no real trail or enduro bike. I've got my 16lbs A-D Bikes Ultima which is my everesting bike and a 35lbs 2014 Kona Park Operator 26" for when I need something more when things get hairy or when I need to keep up with fast shredders. So pretty much have all my bases covered for all kinds of riding... Dont have the financial means to have too many bikes so my bike type range is varied to the extremes. This bike is my go to bike because it's the most versatile. It's also a $200 bike built up with mostly donated parts.

The build is this with some slight tweaks
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jefq7ukSbw

This is how i have the bike setup. Though it's been a while now and my setup has changed quite a bit now to handle more aggressive riding as I've learned how to handle dropbars quite a bit more. Main differences are like fork pumped up for a 220lbs rider according to the manufacturer spec (I'm 130lbs) because of front weight bias and I now run 40psi front and 45psi back for tires.

Haha. Chap is a special case cause I probably have home court advantage on that one. Grew up learning to ride on that trail.

Great bike1 Met you a few years ago @ Saratoga Gap. Built up something similar[ish]. Ridden all of Demo and just about everything else in that vicinity too. These bikes just work everywhere - especially, if you're looking to ride more/chauffeur [your bike] less.

Some videos! We had a couple world class athletes in the mix!! At the bottom of Flow, one of them pedaled hard and split his chainring and chain in two. The disappointment on his face was deep not because of the long walk to the lot but because he couldn't do his second Flow run.

DUde! I totally remember you! I had just gotten back into cycling about a year before that after a 7 - 8 year hiatus. I had just built that bike too! Was hanging with some of my roadie friends and was just trying to explore stuff. You were on a white cannondale hardtail with a lefty? You told me to go find something called John Nicholas or something like that...

White Lefty, same Ti frame then as now, next generation of Lefty these days. Great to see you've stuck with that build and have been the exploring the limits of a drop bar build too.

Some time ago, I called a ride at Demo Forest and about 45 riders showed up.

All singlespeeders. A couple had drop bar singlespeeds.

    3 laps!!

Demo Forest Ride - Monday, April 15.-dscn0005.jpg

    We have roots!!!

We also had rides where we rode there from Los Gatos. And back. Everything was a novelty. And then there were about 5 rides that were the fabled 10,000 feet of climbing.

Now, I'd rather hit a corner or do a drop well. But maybe we can do a novel ride again to mark time.

It was a fad and a wave for sure.

But there was something to be said about it as it was a revolt against those drivetrains and suspensions that SUCKED at the time. And it helped the 29er nation in its cause.

I do smile though when someone today discovers singlespeeding and that's all they want to do. It's like fat bikes and gravel bikes on tech trails. Novel.

Yep. And i get it, ride what's fun. But the annoying part was the zealous evangelizing about "being one with the trail" and "it's making me a much better mountain biker" or some sh*t like that. That was the annoying part... :-)

The guy with the truck had to drop off his daughter off at school in Antioch before picking us up in Oakland. We got there right before you guys left and we were going to catch up on the climb but somehow ended going down some fireroad and having to double back and also climbing some mud pit single track to the top added about an hour and a half maybe?

I'd feel right at home with that drop bar crew... hahahaha. Though no way i'm riding an SS bike. I've got nothing to prove and id rather be able to get to the easily and then shred the downs. I'm weak like that... :P

Thanks man! Just love being on bikes. Cant believe I was off all bikes for so many years. Makes me really cherish everytime i'm on one now for sure. Doesnt matter what bike be it a DH bike or road bike.

Ian's my homie man. Known him for a long time from my dh racing days. Dude knows what he's talking about and his method of rear axle loading is pretty sick. That and he's got a few million ways to explain it so one will work for whomever individual.

Dont know what the burrito log drop is. That the drop to flat one? I dont really know the trail but was told there was nothing big so I just sent the ones I saw in time.
