Thanks for posting this! I am planning on racing cross for the first time this season. I've been training on my own but a clinic would be helpful for sure. I was actually considering posting a thread on here to try and get some people together to train. BTW, I like your blog Dion.

    Thanks Dude! Let's roll?

My brother has a "cyclocross" circuit down in Santa Cruz (in an undisclosed location) and was thinking about hitting it soon. Are you doing Fort Ord on the 19th?

http://ncncacx.blogspot.com/p/calendar.html has list of the cyclocross races. Surf City Halloweencross race is a good one to see/race.

We should definitely meet up for some CX training rides. I'm up in the Oakland area but I could make my way down there some time soon. I am planning on doing the Fort Ord race on the 19th and was also considering the Folsom race on the 11th. I'll keep you posted about this coming weekend. Would definitely be a great opportunity to build some skills and socialize. If you have any other training rides planned, shoot me a PM for sure.

I don't think I'll make it. Honestly just don't feel like getting up and going with time to make the drive down from Alameda. If I can find the motivation before bed tonight then I'll be there, haha. Still looking forward to racing in the next couple weeks. Should be in Folsom next weekend.

EPIC! I posted some pics at my blog, but here's my take of the whole thing:

In preparation of the first CCCX race on the 19th in Fort Ord, I decided to take a CX clinic put on my Clicista Bonita, an all-female race team from Santa Cruz. I generally feel confident in racing CX, but I wanted to see if I could pick up a few other tid-bits. Boy, did I learn a lot!

As a bigger dude, my main concern with racing CX is gassing out early. I feel confident in sprinting (I seemed to be the fastest sprinter in my group), confident in my bike handling skills and feel like I have a base fitness from riding consistently throughout the year. However, if I could learn something that would keep me from expending energy (that would lead to gassing me out), I'm all for it.

During our dismounts and re-mounts, I felt I had that down pretty well. The area that helped me a TON was the transition to a shoulder carry on a hill run, and letting the bike down without it bouncing around. Also, timing a barrier run to flow through the barriers without shuffling my feet or mis-queuing my run to remount. I know, for many of you reading this, this is all craziness, but these were the types of things I was looking for in today's clinic, and I definitely found answers.

Thanks for the wonderful day, Ciclista Bonita! They absolutely rocked it with great coaching and awesome drills - definitely some valuable training drills I can apply when I do my training rides. I would recommend this clinic to anybody that has been bitten by the cyclocross bug.

    Hey CX'ers,

I got some materials for some barriers and was wondering if you guys wanted to do some training rides before the first CCCX race (or after). I'll keep an eye out for a good place to set up around here, but if you guys have a suggestion, I'm all ears.

You know she has a well earned tattoo right?

If you touch base w/ her ask if she remember's Vogler's friend Obi for me.
