Never been myself, but try Bicycle Express which is one street corner south of San Jose State.
    Bicycle Express
131 E William St., San Jose, CA, 95112.
Nearest cross road is S 4th St.
    408-998-1618

You could also buy tubes at Target, OSH, and some Longs or RiteAid stores... though I cannot vouch for the quality of tubes you might find there.

this is def. closest to downtown. I went there once when I worked downtown. I went for a tube and a chain. I think they had tubes, but no chains.

I think fast bike would be the closest "real" bike shop. Reeds just a bit further down the street is pretty good too. never been to fabers.

Tried Fabers Cyclery, but it's apparently closed Sunday through Friday. Then went to Bicycle Express and got what I needed. Nice people, but definitely old school. :
