    Boggs Update July 12018

Looks like there's a partial re-opening of Boggs this week -roads only. I attached some fairly current Google Earth snaps showing an old GPS track on/off. The trails we rode appear to be obliterated. Anyone been there recently?

Friends of Boggs has posted a Cal Fire press release. And there's a request to not build unsanctioned trails. This request should be respected, esp as this was an area where bikes had miles of legal single track to enjoy -full access.

Came here to post the same thing.

I'm very pleased that it's open again, even if it's just the roads.

Kinda what I was afraid of.

I rode there for years. We only used the fire roads as conduits to reach the trails. Must look like Europe after WWII.

    Couldn't agree more.
I was there Monday for the re-opening. Though depressing to see how little is left of what we once knew as a forest, there is promise. The saplings have done quite well and will hit a growth spurt period in just a couple more years and the oak is already starting to flourish (not the poison oak).

The old main camp area still has trees and shade:

The rest - not so much. It's odd to see the valleys below. But you may be able to make out some of the 600,000+ saplings. Some are now in their second year and surviving well. From what I heard, they've exceeded expectations. The other really weird part is to now see how close to one another the trails are. With all the tree cover you always felt so far away, but now that you can see them (or where there once were) it seems so much more compact.

Finally, a word of advice to bring water and sun screen. Though in total only about 15 miles of fire road, it gets hot and sun beaten by mid-morning.

Okay, one more. Descending road 600 is a bit sketchy. Look out for deep water channels and big water bars on the steep descent. The locals will surely try to carve out some lines

$500 million for more irresponsible EBRPD land management? No thanks.

Any news on what's going on at boggs? Sure miss that place for riding. Looks like there was a trail day last weekend. Seems at least the fire roads are open for riding.

In addition to that one in September, there have been trail work days. Some friends up there continue to share updates.

Heading up to Cobb for Father's Day weekend, as I have every year since.... forever. Stoked that I can at least hit the fire roads. Nice to see progress happening.
