Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay Kids Ride

The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay is hosting the Annual IMBA Kids ride at Pt. Pinole Regional Park on October 2, 2010 from 10 AM to 2. The ride is open to all kids with bikes and helmets accompanied by their parents. Pt. Pinole offers 14 miles of well maintained fireroad and wide trails in a gently rolling SF Bayside setting.

Riders will be sorted into ability groups with skilled adult support and support from members of the NorCal High School Racing League. In the past we have supported Trail-a-bikes, Burleys, small bikes and such, easily.

A nice after-ride lunch, with light options, will be provided at no cost. Water and facilities are ample. There is also a great Kiddy Park with swings, slides, and a jungle-gym for riders who just need to play! Or they can go explore the beach!

I will be there with the family in tow. I will be extremely jetlagged but I'll try to keep up!

Thanks for getting that straightened out. If only there was a keyboard-mounted tazer to shock Mike every time he types Counsel!
There are no stupid questions but there are A LOT of inquisitive idiots.

mmmmmm free sandwichs! Always a good enough reason to attend Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day in itself.

The event includes a free picnic lunch, official race plates, special kids stickers, and most importantly, riding Pt. Pinole's excellent system of beginner trails.

Additional assistance for the celebration is provided by Youth Mountain Bike Adventures, a BTCEB organization that has been helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1989. We need volunteers to help support the YMBA ride and setup for the picnic lunch afterward. If interested in helping out, contact Berkeley Mike.

All kids and parents welcome. RSVP on BTCEB's group ride calendar.

I would say it's as flat as a pancake, but remember the study by three geographers compared the flatness of Kansas to the flatness of a pancake. They used topographic data from a digital scale model prepared by the US Geological Survey, and they purchased a pancake from the International House of Pancakes. Turns out the pancake had more "hills".

Suffice to say Pt Pinole is pretty darn flat, with smooth dirt trails, and suitable for young kids. Last year we had kids ranged from 3 to 13, some on their own bikes, push bikes, trail-a-bikes, and Burley's. You can take a peek at the trails on Google maps.

Looks like it's going to cool down nicely for the weekend. Pt Pinole is right on the bay and I'm sure we'll hit up the 1250-foot fishing pier. This event is a great opportunity for kids and groups to experience mountain biking for the first time or to get back on the saddle again. Very casual, with play ground, great views of the bay, and easy dirt and paved trails. RSVP on BTCEB's Group Ride calendar

As the pics show, it is a great park with beautiful bay views and some fast tracks through eucalyptus groves.

Come on out and join us.
