Aug 26-29, 2019 Weekday Ride Stories

Monday thru Thursday, get a ride in and tell us about it.

Where did you go, what did you get done and what did you love?

The weather... it's hot. The trails, loose. Hey, it's summer.

New template for weekly threads 5k!

Sample photos here cause they say, "pics or it did not happen"

In the heat, it's not the tire, it's the tube.

8am trainer loop in my neighborhood. Thru the fog up into the sun. Pedal up Marincello and down Old Springs trail which is the only legal singletrack in my hood. It's actually pretty fun, some wood bridges and a bunch of little kickers to pop off of and divits to manual thru. And a staircase to Mach down, get your rythm right and glide right over the tops of the railroad ties. 8mi in 50 minutes. Kind of the perfect workout/quick fun ride.

Saw deer, a Coyote, and flushed a covey of 20 or so quail who flew right in front of me and around me as I passed.

Farewell ride on the 2014 5010C. Picking up the SB130LR from UPS tomorrow. Super stoked for that!

I'm going riding! 1pm. I have no car anymore so everything has to be from home til I find a replacement. Maybe 4runner or something. Only car is Tacoma and wife is using it since she's got a real job.

Why is the forum sometimes posting double sets of pics, fc (as seen in your original post)?

    Ft Ord

Drove down to Ord, assuming it would be foggy & cool.
    It wasnít.
The fog line was visible but juuust out of reach.

Btw, way off topic but if you or someone you know is a Veteran, the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery at Ft Ord is brand new and very nice (compared to the one in the Central Valley). Itís a columbarium so ashes/urns only. Great staff and hey, itís free for veterans.

Rode up Bear's Highway and down Mt Ely, Shaver Lake. That's a brutal loop, Bear's is better as a downhill. And Mt Ely, which is now off my explore list, is too steep without traction (decomposing granite).

Buddy and I hit Trukee last night, loosing that summer light. Didn't make it totally out before dark, dropped last trail not even being able to see a few feet in front of us, ran into other guys trying to use cell phones. We've been through stupid stuff like that before together, nervous laughing the whole way down. No walking

haha, we got plenty of good riding time before it was just time to sit on the rear tire in case the front wheel stuck in something you couldn't see, thankfully the mullet is extra roomy back there

Testing a handlebar mount for the phone, my phone flew away and fell into a steep embankment with poison oak.

I left it there. Today is the day of the rescue mission. Healing vibes sought already.

At least it did not fall into a porta potty like my friend's.

Quick for me late Braille loop, left parking lot at 6. Made it to about a mile out on Hihnís before I had to turn on my uncharged light. Side note couldnít see what they have done on Aptos creek road if anything. Side note 2, I recently bought some maxxis ikons 2.3ís and thought due to small knobby size they were going to suck but those things hook up. I am running front and rear and been happy with the summer performance.

Canít upload pic but you have all seen it before.

Got home from SF today. Going to grab my newly built rear 29x3 DT Swiss 350 w/i40 KOM Tough w/ Maxxis Minion DHF. Super stocked to know I can abuse it and not worry. After that going to dig for a few hours today. I have a few spots I think would benefit from some TLC. Riding the full loop tomorrow! In the meantime, enjoy some pics from a buddyís ride yesterday:

Found a bridge over a crappy chunky creek bed I never really liked and needs help for the spring as the creek flows pretty strong, so weird how they just show up!?!?! It has 10í beams but needed 12-14í. Iíll swap it out next week and use this one at another crossing.

Doesnít really matter as I plan on pretty much bunny hopping the entire thing as there is a lip and it is slightly sloped downhill where you are carrying a ton of speed.

Cleaned up the jumps in prep of our ride tomorrow. They should be smooth as butter and strangely enough ... slightly bigger

Got my rear wheel back after the Re-build, it looks tough as shit and ready to get rowdy!
