10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 7-8

Finally had some time to finish our Trip Report on our Oregon bike adventure. . .

Day 7. Oakridge to Waldo Lake.

Bunchgrass Ridge to Waldo for us wasn’t happening so we instead road up Highway 58. There was an interesting rock outcropping along the way.

Boy do I not riding along busy highways.

We stopped at Salt Cr Falls for lunch.

On the road to Waldo Lake we could see Diamond Peak behind us.

Where the road intersects with the Betty Lake Tr we were back on dirt again as it began to sprinkle. Yeah!

We rode the Betty Lake trail and the Waldo Lake Trail on some delightful single track all the rest of the way to our campground. Along the way it began to thunder and rain so it was nice to have a tarp set up over our table.

The evening sunset at Waldo Lake was one of the best I’ve ever seen.

    Day 7. 38 Miles, 5195’ of climbing.

Day 8. Waldo Lake to Little Lava Lake.

Our ride today was awesome. Single track most of the way. We headed out of our campground onto the Lemish Lake Tr. After a while we rode past Charlton L.

Riding beautiful single track we then stopped for a rest at Lemish L.

Continuing onto Little Cultus Lake where we stopped for lunch. After some route finding issues, we were on the trail to Cultus Lake.

Often negotiating downed trees across the trail.

    And a few bridges.

Here we met the bike packers, Bruce and Julie, whom we met at the Brewers Union a few nights ago. We invited them over for dinner. Talking around the campfire it turns out Bruce works for MBOSC and Julie is a Software Engineer.

Hey @cmon4day ! This is Julie who you met along the way. Bruce and I really enjoyed running into you guys! Our Bunchgrass ridge climb out of Oakridge was slow but spectacularly beautiful. And it ended up being only a little over 7k, not 8k. I want my money back! j/k. But there were some extreme grades where pushing our loaded bikes was quite ridiculous. Funny how our itineraries converged at Lava Lake! Great write-up - loved seeing your photos. Thank you for the beer and the camp meal, the company and camaraderie!! Perhaps I should make a thread here with our Oregon Timber Trail highlights.
Half the planet is deep into bloody tribal mayhem. We’re just riding bikes (and drinking beer) here.

    Hey shredchic,

Thanks for the reading our TR. I would love to see a write up on your trip. I've been researching the OTT for awhile and thinking of possible future bike packing trips. Also, would love to see the pictures that Bruce took with that camera he packed along!!

    Take Care,

    Vic
