    XT brake lever won't return.

After a crash on some rocks my rear brake lever on my XT hydraulic brakes won't return fully after compressing it.

I checked the lever and the lever housing but it doesn't show any sign of being bent or damaged.

I bled it knowing it was needing that anyway and thinking maybe there wasn't enough fluid pressure in the system to push it back out. That helped solve the problem for the most part (it still drug a bit about halfway out before returning) but by the end of the first ride it was back to sticking.

So I suspect there is something damaged or worn. What can I do to further investigate and fix this problem?

Seeing that you've checked the brake lever and perhaps have ensured that the master cylinder piston is returning and itís not the problem...my initial response would be to remove the rear wheel and check to confirm that the brake puck is retracting back into the caliper.

Is your shifter pressing against the bottom of the lever pivot pin ?

Actually this was it. I noticed that they were pressing against each other fairly tight so I loosened the shifter and rotated it away from the brake lever housing and the problem is (mostly) solved. It does return now but there's still a bit of a hitch in the return stroke about half way.
