    Singing Avid Mechanicals?

I just installed an Avid Mech disc brake on the front of my bike (that has the 2004 Mavic crossland wheels), and I know its supposed to take roughly 40 stops before the pads are worn in. Just riding the bike up and down the street the front brake really sings, how long does this really last? Anything I can do to speed it up? I dont want to be the loud freak on the trails saturday morning when I go for a ride into the silent wilderness.

    Thanks!

    Dont worry about it...

I had the same exact experiwnce (they only sing when you stop right?) Anyway I did a few hard stops before hitting the trails and there were no problems, it wont take long to break'em in.

Thanks for the hope I may be just acting a bit paranoid, after my first long ride I am guessing they will work out. Saturday is my first ride with the disc brake, so we will see if they brake in.

I need not have worried, my Avid break broke in half way through the first ride, and it is doing just fine now. Thanks folks!

    Maybe check...

Check the tightness of the rotor mounting bolts. Check that the rotor is true and free from oils and other contaminents. Lastly make sure the calipers are mounted correctly and aligned. Your pads are 2/3 stationary side, and 1/3 motion side.

I noticed that the brakes howl a bit after a long descent and the rotors are hot and my speed is slow, but usually goes away after a few pulls.
