    Shimano Mechanical Disc Brake Weight

Shimano lists their mech. disc brake weight as 260grams, which is 100 grams lighter than the avid BB5's, 70 grams lighter than the BB7's, and around 100 grams lighter than any Hayes mech. brake. Is this because they list the weight without the rotor (no website I found divulged whether or not the weight was with or without the rotor)? Does anyone know what the caliper and rotor weights are on this brake?

    You got it....

Shimano does not include rotors when they weigh their mechanical disc brakes. Avid weights include the caliper and a stock 160mm rotor, adapter, and lever weights are not included. The weight difference with the Hayes mechs seems to indicate the same. And I have yet to find weight specs for rotors on the Shimano website. So, unless someone chimes in that has weighed them, your guess is as good as mine.

no picture, but my R505 caliper is more than 20g heavier than my avid BB7 caliper.
