    Shimano hydraulic hose codes

    Reference is from this site: Brakes

    Deore, older, and non series
    SM-BH90-SS

    SLX
    SM-BH90-SB

    XT, XTR (M8k, M9k)
    SM-BH90-SBM

    Zee
    SM-BH90-SBS

    Saint
    SM-BH90-SBLS

    Look at the codes after the 2nd '-' ...

    Given the nature of the connections, I'd say that SS and SB stand for the connection to the brake lever and caliper respectively. I think, 'S' is 'straight,' and 'B' is 'Banjo.'

    Anyone knows what 'M,' 'S,' and 'LS' means?
    Why does SLX only have 'SB' in the end unlike XT, XTR, Zee and Saint.

    Well, found this site: 2015-2016 SHIMANO Product Information Web

    The difference between SB and SBM doesn't make sense though. The difference is in the length of the banjo fitting itself and the bolt that holds it.

    SS = Straight & Straight
    SB = Straight & Banjo
    SBM, the M means that the banjo & banjo bolt are compatible with the magnesium M987 & M9000 calipers.
    SBS, the S would be for standard banjo.
    SBLS, the L would be for long banjo, the last S is a mystery

    SM-BH90-SB = SLX 675, XT 785, XTR 985, XT 8000*
    SM-BH90-SBM = XTR 987, XTR 9000, XTR 9020**

    * Product info page lists the XT 8000 using the SM-BH90-SBM, a Shimano tech document lists the SM-BH90-SB
    ** The XTR 9020 is a aluminum caliper, you should be able to use the SM-BH90-SB with it.

    I've seen a few references for a SM-BH90-SLB hose for the Saint.

    "i think"

    SBS - <straight lever> <banjo caliper> <short bolt>
    SBLS - <straight lever> <banjo caliper> <long banjo> <short bolt>

    ???

    the japs should fix their naming, or it might be making sense from a jap perspective, but translating it to english directly creates a scratchead.

    Thanks, guys. I've been scratching my head to understand what is the difference between SB and SBM, now it is all clear.
