    New pads, lever adjustment?

Just installed new pads, rear. Hayes HFX 9. Removed old, pushed pistons back flush, installed new pads, no prob. Now the lever requires so little pull to activate brakes, about a mm and the brakes are ON. Way too touchy. I assume from new, thicker pads. How can I adjust this? Can I pop off the bleed cap on the master cylinder to relieve a little pressure/fluid?

could be that the pistons didn't get pushed back far enough. Try removing the pads and blowing compressed air into the caliper to blow out the remaining pad sediment. Or also try gently extracting the pistons by pulling the lever and then cleaning the pistons with a water/isopropyl mixture. Try pushing the pistons back again and re-install pads to see if that works any better.
