    Hayes 22mm Caliper

Anybody have an old Hayes 22mm caliper of half laying around somewhere? I'm putting discs on my Mantra and this is the only thing slowing me down...

    Thanks,

I was doing a buildup for a Trek 8900 that I bought off of e-bay but I got screwed by the seller and do not have a frame but I do have a bunch of parts in anticipation of the build-up. Now that I have vented, I have two brand new Hayes 22mm caliper assemblies complete with new brake pads. These are still available if you find the right person, place, etc. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested in one of the assemblies. I will probably hang on to one just in case something pops up in the future.

... and if we just ... On your Mantra...

How are you planning to route the hydraulic line?I am building up a '99 Mantra (silver-white) frame with hayes direct mount rear disc (160mm). I am just about ready to route the hose, but not sure about the best way, because so few mantras have disc, so its difficult to find pics of examples.

The best results that I had were on a Klein, route them on the seat stay... then to the top tube. If the bike doesn't have the right cable stops then be sure to use tape and zip ties to hold it in place.... especially as it passes by the wheel.

I'm setting up my 'new" 99 mantra with a 22 hayes that came in today from ebay

the used brake has the attachment pointing down

it looks like a loop under the axle and back to the seat stay will be fairly clean,
going down and forward and up uses a lot of hose.

turning the attachment banjo up like yours makes a pretty big loop hanging out the back

i hit the LBS today and bought a replacement Hayes hose kit as the one from my ebay purchase is about a foot to short.

It looks like i should be able to use the newer screw fitting on the brake side instead of the 90 degree banjo.

I have a 22mm mount half, complete with piston and seal. Also a 22mm to IS adaptor so you can use the same caliper on a future IS frame. If anybody needs one, also have a 68mm (old Manitou) post mount half. PM me if interested.

would love to see pics of your 99 mantra build, tuttle.

I am a few parts shy of finishing mine. I still need a cassette, chain, grips, shifter cables, and a front disc brake assembly. I have the 68mm hayes mount-side half for the fork, but not the rest. my stem is coming from ebay next week..can't wait to see it with handlebars on

Wowzerz seeing old post come back to life.

I sent mine to StaggerLee last I heard from him he was getting married and the project was on the back burners, it's been 3 years maybe he dropped the project altogether. Might want to contact him if he is still around.

sorry to dig this thread but i just bought a 1999 psycle werks wild hare and the disc tab is a 22mm.... but where it's placed I cannot use a special adapter and need to find a 22mm caliper... is there anyone out there who still have an old 22mm half or caliper? I have a like new(and low hours) Hayes mag HD G2 caliper that I could trade and pay shipping for both if necessary, can also buy it cash(well the way you're comfortable with).

    Thanks for your help guys

You CAN use an adapter if you use the right kind of caliper... for me it was a Shimano XTR, the kind that have direct mount for IS.
