I want to change the my front rotor on my Pivot to 180mm and I'm not sure if I should just get another basic XT rotor or the "Ice Tech" rotor or something else altogether?
Yes, but the question is, do I want ice tech rotors? Are they worth the extra? Are there better rotors to use? Is the basic XT... or SLX or generic, just as good?
Most of the time I don't think you will notice much difference with the ice-tech's compared to the standard XT rotors. They may stay cooler on longer downhills compared to the standards. Do you do lots of long downhills? If not, I don't really see the extra expense of the Ice-techs being worth it.
My Magura rotors were thicker than all 4 XT rotors. I used the Magura rotors(freebies) with XT calipers with no problems but they needed to be adjusted accurately and pistons kept clean w/ alcohol on swabs.
