203mm rotor ok on reba team?

    Hi all,

I would like to upgrade from 160mm to 203mm disc on my reba team fork, would this be ok?

I have xtr centerlock rotors and hubs (965 models), is it possible to fit the 07 203mm xtr rotor?

    Thanks,
    Neil.

Fit should not be the problem. I assume you have a centerlock hub and you either buy a 203mm brake or the appropriate adapter for the caliper.

Real issue: You need to check if the reba supports a 203mm brake. Most likely it is not. So be aware of the fact that you loose the warranty. Not sure that bothers you, though. Also sometimes mentioned is felx in the fork if the brake is too strong. Well, that happens only if you brake really hard...

Why are do you want to move up to 203mm rotors? Are the 160s fading out on you? If not, why spend the extra cash?

As far as I know, Centerlock has not changed, you can use the larger XTR rotors on your centerlock hubs.

I'm not sure if SRAM approves of using 203mm rotors on Rebas. I know it's been done. We've got a couple riders that have been running that setup for almost two years now. The braking forces could cause the fork to twist, which could in turn accelerate bushing wear. Oh, and I suppose there's the off-chance of the dropouts or disc tabs failing.

    Thanks for the info,

I have 203mm front on my rocky switch sl and I just like the performance of the 203mm rotor.
I have e-mailed sram about fitting, just wait and see what they say.

    Thanks,
    Neil.

    Nail,
Would you please share a response with us? Have you performed this upgrade?

I too have a 160mm rotor on Reba and I am not impressed with the performance. Would going to 180mm make a noticeable difference.

Any more information or experience? Thanks!

Yes I have done the upgrade.

I contacted rockshox to make sure it's ok to use a 203mm rotor on a reba and they said it's fine

I have xtr calipers IS mount so I bought a 160-203mm IS to IS shimano adaptor and a 2007 (new type) xtr 203mm rotor, the 07 xtr rotor fits the older type xtr spline hub no problem.

Overall it is a great upgrade, braking power is far better.

I did it...I can tell you that the fork has to work harder now and as mentioned this will accelerate bushing wear..but I think it is worth it.
