what bike to buy for 220 pounder

    Hi,

    I'm totally new to mountain biking, i haven't ride a bike since 91, i'm 29 now 5'11" 220lbs
pretty much my friend got me into it but living in phoenix, i don't know how often i'll be riding.

he recommand 06 kona kikapu deluxe, but i'm open to others as well.
my budget is $1k on FS bike, and i like to shop at LBS not online.

    Thanks in advance

any idea what other brands your local shops carry? konas are good bikes, the kikapu deluxe would be a decent bike to look into. being 220 lbs look for a bike that has a sturdy front fork, i dont know if the Dart 2 that comes on the kona would be sufficient. look into the Trek Fuel line of bikes if you have a Trek dealer in your area. Also try Jamis bikes, their bikes usually offer a lot of bang for your buck. just try to ride as many bikes as you can before buying.

for $1K i suggest a good hard tail, a FS will not serve you very well at that price range. Check the Clydsedale(SP) section for help
