    scalpel or titus racerx100

I am wanting a xc racing bike and have narrowed it down to these 2 bikes. If I go with a scalpel do I go with 1000,2000,3000?I am wanting to take the xt components off my current bike which are almost new so I am really looking at just buying the frame.I live in the boonies relatively speaking and unable to test ride. any comments or suggestions?

    I have owned both

For a while, I owned both at the same time. Both are great bikes. You really cannot go wrong with either. I think which is better for you depends on your terrain. If you race on really rugged terrain, the additional travel and horst link rear of the Racer X is probably the better choice.

I live in Indiana and most of my races consist of fast twisty wooded singletrack with short steep climbs and descents, but not all that rocky or rooty. The Scalpel is hard to beat in these conditions. I have a Fatty Ultra headshock and the stiffness and precision of the front end is very confidence inspiring when you are pushing the limits. The Lefty would yield the same results with a little more travel.

I sold the Racer X, but, in my optimal world, I would convert a Lefty to 1 1/8 and put it on the front of a Racer X, which is what I may do next year when I buy a new bike.
