    Kona Kahuna vs Big Kahuna

Stopped in my LBS the other day for a new tube and realized all the flashy (and clean) new bikes there are calling my name.

I took a Kona Kahuna for a quick ride and liked it. The real question I have is: Is it worth the extra money to jump up to the Big Kahuna or is the Kahuna in the "good enough" category.

I plan on riding mostly XC. I am 6'2" and 180#. Original budget was around $1200 but will go higher if I can justify it to myself.

    Thanks in advance.

In general it is best to buy the best bike you can afford. The higher level components will be muh cheaper when purchased with a complete bike then if you upgrade later. Just looking at the components, the Big Kahuna looks much nicer. What is the price difference between the two bikes?

Hmm...around $700 difference, but the Big K is a lot nicer. It's close to the end of the model year. Maybe wait a few more weeks a negotiate a sweet deal on the Big K?

In Canada the price difference is $1100 vs $1800. I assumed that the Big Kahuna would be a better buy based on price and my limited component knowledge. Thought I would ask for some opinions.

    Thanks for the replies.

If you don't ride that often say 1-2x a week on trails that are not too challenging then you would be more than fine with the Kahuna. Not to mention it fits your original budget. Like TreeKiller says its close to the end of the model year so you could even get the Kahuna for even cheaper if you can wait, instead of trying to negotiate for the Big Kahuna, and use whatever money you save on something else bike-related or not.
