    Which KONA?

Considering my 1st F/S bike. Not for racing, just for fun XC riding. Budget about 1000-1800 $ ( can afford more but have other interests, etc)
Anyway, have my eye on Kikapu 2005 ($1099). Kikapu Deluxe 2004 is 1599, better brakes/shock/parts. Both feel the same to me. I can't tell the difference. I don't want to feel like I need to upgrade...I hate upgrading bikes...it's a waste. I also don't want to buy another better bike in 2 or 3 years because I got the lower model and I've 'outgrown it'. However, is there really much of a difference as one goes up only one level in a line of bikes?
    Thanks

    Consider the Dawg, too.
I haven't looked at part spec, but it fits in your cost range.
If you decide on the Kikapu, as opposed to the Kik Delux, you can upgrade the parts with those you like.
