for my money, I went with the rockhopper. It's a great bike, lighter and slightly better than the hardrock, and I've had absolutely no problems with the bike, and i'd recommend it to anybody wanting a quality hardtail. My friend has the hardrock and hasn't really had any problems, but with the amount of cash he's shelled out to upgrade his bike to better components, you're better off buying the 'hopper, with the better components to start with. I don't know enough about the Kona to make any sort of educated or informative statement.

Kona Blast would be my choice. I test rode a Kona Blast when I was bike shopping. It's a good bike but I ended up with a fisher tass because the ride felt better.

I did test ride a hard rock as well and did not like the bike at all. I'm more of an XC rider and the hardrock didn't suit my needs. I would say that it's more for dirt jumping, etc. I haven't ridden a rockhopper so I can't recommend it. My guess is that it would have a similar feel to a Kona Blast.
