Is this a good deal? 1994 GT Timberline for $75

I am looking for a spare bike to tool around on and convert to SS. I found a very good condition '94 GT Timberline bike for $75. It is all stock components and is ridable in its current state. There are no dents in the frame which I believe is steel but it may be aluminum. It has U-brakes, a rigid front fork. Seller wants $75. Any comments on this bike, should I buy?

I have a 99 GT Timberline, same thing, steel frame. It's done me good over the years, I'm retiring it next week when my Kikapu comes in, can't wait. It's a great frame to fart around on IMO, but I dunno about $75 for a 94...

U-brakes? I am 99% certain it should have cantilevers... if its got U-brakes forget about upgrading to v-brakes or even cantilevers, in which case, pass on it.

My 99 has "linear pull", "V Brakes", whatever you want to call them. I call them suck, ProMax crap, I can't get the rear to stop squeeling.

Sorry I meant this in reply to the thread starter, who stated his 94 Timberline had U brakes.

Don't even look at anything with u-brakes, unless you are into restoring and keeping it for a "retro collection" . Might be OK as a collector's piece, but I'd pass if it was going to be my main ride.
