    FS for Technical XC Racing

I have a 2004 Marin Bear valley steel hardtail. I love it, but some XC races around here (MA) are insane. So tough that bringing my 7 inch squishy might be a good idea. So, I was wondering....Next year, I will probably work at a bike shop and get employee pricing. I was considering FS bikes in the $2500 range. I will still use my Marin for more tame courses and for just riding around as I love hardtails. I'd appreciate some feedback.

    2007 Specialized Epic Comp
    2007 Cannondale Scalpel 3
    MountainCycle Zen
    K2 Apache 6.0

I'd be happy with all of them, but I was leaning towards the Epic. Yes, I have a year to work this out, but I just want some feed back. Vote for what you feel is the best bike for the $$$ and what would be best for technical XC racing.

    -Thanks

Why not check out Giant's Anthem 1 or 2.

FS for racing technical or whatever IMO should be:
    -efficient pedaler
    -nimble & agile
    -light
    -quick
These are the traits of a good hardtail. If you can find these in one of those mentioned above, then you have a winner.

Yeah, I was beginning to consider it after reading the reviews.
Whatever I end up with, it'll be 2007 and a lot of companies are doing a great job of putting better components on their bikes....while maintaining a reasonable price.

Here's another vote for the Titus Racer-X. Not sure how it is "bling" however. While you are reading reviews, swing over to http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/xc_full_...t_124822.shtml. Or better yet, demo one. You will be glad you did.

I would wait till at least after I-Bike

    See what's coming out.

Then see what shop you're working at. See what deals they can cut for you on the brands they carry. Shops really do like it when the employees are riding what they sell.

There are quite a few good XC racers out there, from quite a few companies. Find what fits, and remember that 80-90% Engine, 20-10% Chassis.

    Good luck,
