    Exhausting bike search continues...

It looks like my search has been narrowed to these two. A Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc and a Raleigh Talus 5.0
Both are very similar in components and price. I'm really torn. Anyone have any thoughts or have had time on these bikes. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Widen the search

If you are getting into the $600 range you should try to find a bike with disc brakes AND 27 speeds. REI offers the Ponderosa with 27 speeds for $599. If you check Performance Bike out they have one of their Diamondbacks with 27 speeds and a pretty decent fork for $699. You might be able to find something in the store for a little less. The local bike shops will not be able to compete with Performance and REI in these lower-mid range hardtails.

If you are set on one of the two mentioned Specialized has odd sizing -17, 19, 21, while Raleigh has even sizes 16-18-20 etc. They will fit a little different although that might not be that important. I like the color of the Specialized and I would probably lean toward the brand even though its a few dollars more than the Raleigh. If its really a close decision buy it from the closest shop or where you would normally shop. Support you local bike shop.
