Critique build please (sentier vrx custom/san quentin 1) enduro/all mountain hardtail

Hi y'all. I've been harboring this deep desire for a hardcore/aggresive hardtail for as long as I've been into mt biking. I can't take my lack of a proper shredder no more so here goes nothing... (kindly advise on any potential compatibility issues or so. Cheers.

I would go with neither and instead look at the Octane Pro for its thru axle rear end. Everything else about the frames are similar. Btw, you don't need a rear brake adapter, just front. And the frames you picked out are QR not thru axle. The wheelset you picked is boost 148mm, def will not work. The frame below is 142mm thru axle.

Thanks for your advice. however, i checked the sentier vrx full bike spec sheet and it runs 148 x 12 mm rear hub or did I miss something? Vitus Sentier VRX Hardtail Bike - XT 1x11 2018 | Chain Reaction Cycles

Woops, my bad. I was looking at the cheaper frame. Also, you will want to look at a wheelset with wider rims. Those Fulcrum use very skinny rims. That said, those great prices on those frames.

No problem. Any suggestions for affordable wheels? Had my eyes on these.

The Spline 30s look good on paper but they fair pretty poorly in the real world. The reviews on mtbr are abysmal. I dunno man, wheels are tough to buy which is why I build my own. Are you are somewhere in the EU? No point in linking US shops I think?

I would appreciate it. any link is fine. I can ship.

PS: Everything on the san quentin 1 appeals to me except for the coil fork. is a coil spring accepatable at that price range? I weigh 65kgs.

Building up a frame at this price point is is a complete waste of time. You won't save any money and the parts aren't good enough to be worth cherry picking. Budget wheels suck, those forks both suck, NX sucks.

A through axle is either no advantage or a disadvantage on a hardtail.

Got a link to that bike? Generally it is best to buy a whole bike since you get more for your money. The costs of building a bike piecemeal is quite high because of the labor, time, and tools required not to mention the experience needed. Thus buy a whole bike if you can.

Have you seen the Cube on CRC btw?

^^^ I pretty much agree with the two previous posts with at least one caveat. Some find it fun and enjoyable to choose parts and assemble a bike even when there may be no significant performance benefit in doing so, and even if it costs them something more than buying an equivalently performing complete bike. Nothing wrong with that.
    Do the math.

I built up an Octane One Prone 29er over the summer. I definitely love how this bike handles. It descends like a raging monster and I've done crazy stuff on this bike that I never tried on my old FS Stumpy.

Critique build please (sentier vrx custom/san quentin 1) enduro/all mountain hardtail-img_1111_zpsbxgqsaql.jpg

    Installed stuff:
    PNW Components Rainier IR dropper
    PNW Components Range stem
    PNW Components Range handlebar
    PNW Components dropper remote
(I am from the PNW hence all my PNW Components gear)

    Fox 34 Factory 130mm fork
    WTB Volt Comp saddle
Hope Pro 4 Enduro wheels (replacing with custom Stan's Flow rims/Bitex hubs this week)
Cush Core (will install on new wheelset)
2.3" Maxxis Minion DHF and DHRII tires
    Shimano XT drivetrain
    Shimano XT brakes
Cane Creek headset (the head tube is fully integrated)

If you want additional information about this frame, shoot me a PM! I have additional photos on my Instagram: jetblast117
