    Bike building resources

Is there a definitive guide to building up a mountain bike that anyone can recommend? I'm planning to do my first build and was hoping for a good source to help me through it. thanks!

I can't recommend you a complete guide, but I do know that Lenard Zinn's The Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance will cover just about everything you need to know besides choosing components. I suggest picking it up; I've referred to it countless times since I got my copy two years ago.

Sheldon Brown has very good information, although not necessarily "mountain bike" specific. Google is your friend here, just simply ask the best way you can figure to ask and you'll get plenty of hits. Also, right here on good ole MTBR is a plethora of information, you just have to carefully sort through it. There are a lot of posters on here that will ridicule your questions and feed you bullshyt info, just playing games. I would be willing to wager that if you get skilled at using the search function on this site, you can gain all of the knowledge that you seek without ever asking a single question in an open forum, thereby minimizing your typical MTBR troll based attacks.

On the other hand, there are many good people here that can guide you, many years of experience and hands on product knowledge. One thing that you would benefit greatly from keeping in mind, it's YOUR bike, build it how you see fit and how you can afford. Bikes parts are expensive, especially good quality parts, take your time with your research, especially if you can only afford to do this once. Most of all, have fun.

Opti is telling it like it is. Go with what you want and don't let the BS posers influence what you want. Take time to filter what is found in your search and learn how to filter the rhetoric.

    Hello.

Look at the Park Tool Company channel on You Tube, there's a 12 part series
on building a bike from ground up by Calvin. I found it very helpful.

The derailleur stuff is about the best I've seen.
