beginner looking for a decent bike

I have been riding for years, but have only recently gotten into it. I currently own a Giant Rincon that I have had for 5+ years. It has been very good to me but is starting to go. Wheels are crooked, chain and gears not the same, brakes iffy. Instead of replacing/fixing all that needs to be, I want to just buy a new one. I don't have the biggest budget, around $250 or less. If anyone has any suggestion as to what bike would be best for a decent mountain bike that will last years but not set me back money-wise? I would prefer full suspension, but front only would be fine.
Thanks, any input would be appreciated!

My friend recently bought a 2005 Spec Rockhopper for $250 of Craigslist. Craigslist or E-Bay is the only way you will get a decent bike for $250

For example http://lexington.craigslist.org/bik substitute your town name for something close to you
