    Advice on AR bike

Any advice on a bike for trail and sprint/mid length adventure races. Hope to limit cost to 500-750 dollars. Also hope to get one that is worth upgrading in the future. Any ideas?

For your use and price range, I think you'd be best off looking at an XC hardtail (Specialized Rockhopper, Giant Ranier and the like). Try to stretch your budget if you can though, because racing pounds the piss out of components and cheap ones WILL let you down...hopefully not way the hell out there in the middle of an event.

At that price range, don't go for a new full suspension, although that would be nice for reducing fatigue. Unless you are willing to go used - in which case for $750 you could get a hardtail with good, race-worthy components or a fully with okay components.

    Good luck!

Just was poking around the classifieds here (I'm bored). There are lots of bikes that would suit your purpose. For example:

    or...

Either of these bikes could be made more adventure race/trail-friendly with a suspension seatpost and perhaps a riser bar for a more comfortable riding position. You sure won't get this level of componentry on a new bike for $750.
