These two bikes were my top two choices for a trail bike. I went to a bike show, tried both of them and decided that the Trance 2 just felt better than the specialized. If there are any bike shows in the near future where you live, you should definately go. You might find one of your choices for a great deal. I found the Trance 2 for around $290 (cad) less than the listed price. There were only a few FSRxc's at the show as they aren't Specialized's main trail bike.
If you look at the specs and overall weight the Specialized has the Trance 2 beaten, but you really need to try both bikes before you decide. The Specialized didn't have any bob, and neither did the Trance but, the Trance just felt a little more "chuckable" to me. They are both good bikes, and you will definately enjoy which ever one you decide to purchase.

They are really close in spec. Both good suspension designs. I'd buy whichever one gives you that "feel" like it belongs to you.

I would prefer the Fox rear shock to an XFusion. My vote goes to the Giant but I haven't rode either one.

I just made this exact decision today! I was lucky enough to get back-to-back test rides of them both, though just on tarmac rather than off it.

I have gone for the Giant because it felt lighter, smoother and the gears on the Spesh were really clunky sounding / feeling by comparison.

    Lee,

How much were you able to get the Trance for?

    Good job!

They did it for 1215 - 10%ish off. I have seen this price on the net, but I'm happy to go with the local shop and the convenience that gives.
