    $1200 Hardtail?

Howdy. I am looking to upgrade to a better hardtail. I currently have a 2004 Rockhopper. My limit is $1200. I checked out a Specialized Stumpjumper with V brakes for $1127 today, but they did not have it in my size. They want 10% down before they will order one for me. Before I do that what other hardtails in this price range should I look at? Seems like the bike shops here only carry $400 hardtails and $2000 FS bikes. Nothing in between.

I would like the new bike to be 25 pounds or under with good components. V brakes are OK as long as the frame allows me to upgrade at some point.

The Jamis Dakota XC is 25.5 lbs. (as claimed on website) and has a steel frame that will ease up the bumps.
Live Life or Watch it go by. I'd rather be living it!

Jamis' Komodo isn't bad either, but it's nowhere near your weight req. at 31lbs.

    Bianchi OETZI 9600XL ALU/CARBON

Retails for $1350 ( I know it's over your $1200 ceiling, but thought you may want to check it out.)
