    Tough decision...or not?

I having a hard time choosing between 1995 Kona Explosif or 2007 Kona Fire Mountain. The guy wants $200 for the Explosif, and the other guy wants $240 for the kona fire. Both bikes are in good condition and both bikes are beautiful. Does the 1995 have more value since it is a vintage? Which one would you guys choose Thanks

personally I would take the newer one, it will have more up to date parts and less you have to upgrade. Just make sure before you buy to check all the welds and tubes for any damage as well as the crank wheels, well check the whole bike over for damage or tell tail signs.

I dunno, there are some pretty low end components on the Fire Mountain, even for a 2007 bike -
    Component Group Mountain Mix
Brakeset Hayes MX-4 brakes, Avid FR-5 levers
    Shift Levers Shimano Alivio
    Front Derailleur Shimano Tourney
    Rear Derailleur Shimano Acera-x
    Crankset Suntour CW-XR170NPB, 24/34/42 teeth
    Pedals Wellgo LU-C3
    Bottom Bracket Chin Haur CH-46
    BB Shell Width Unspecified
    Rear Cogs 8-speed, 11 - 32 teeth
    Chain Shimano IG-70
    Seatpost Kona Thumb
Saddle WTB Speed V Sport SE
    Handlebar Kona Riser
    Handlebar Extensions Not included
    Handlebar Stem Kona Control
    Headset Ritchey LB Plus -
All info from Kona's own site.
Plus the fork is a Dart 1, not exactly that much better imo than the '98/99 model Judy on the Explosif.
If you are going to to be doing any serious off road riding I'd pass on the Fire Mountain and look for something more capable.
If it were me I'd almost be tempted by the Explosif just for the vintage factor alone and it does look like it's been looked after. They were a fairly high level frame with good equipment spec in their day. Plus it has a cromo frame, so no worries about frame fatigue etc.
It does look to be a bit larger than the Fire Mountain, so could be an issue if the frame is too large for you. You also wouldn't be able to run discs on the rear either, as there are no disc tabs.
I don't crash, I just have slightly uncontrolled dismounts!

My instinct is for the Explosif. Both are fair prices and quality would come down to an inspection of both.

From someone who sold Kona back in the day, I
would get the Explosif. And if you don't buy it, let me know who to contact and I
    will buy it.

My vote is for Kona. It'll take modern upgrades easier.

Tom, they are both Kona. I assume you meant the Fire Mountain.
If I were advising someone else I'd suggest the Fire Mountain. It's newer, has disc brakes AND pedals. Just jump on and ride. ... then upgrade.

For me, I'd get the Explosif. Just for the cool factor.

Although hard to tell by the pics, the Explosif frame, based on the head tube, looks to be a large/x-large frame. The Fire looks to me to be a medium frame. Regardless of year and components, if the frame doesn't fit, one will not enjoy riding the bike.
The suspension of your bike sucks if it's different than mine. Really. It sucks. Big time.

but the explosif doesn't come with disc brakes and since it is a '95 it won't even be able to upgrade to the disc brakes so really the fire mountain even though has beginner components it will be easier to upgrade.

    edit
sorry but '95 isn't vintage yet, it is just old.

I still run V-brakes on my Airborne, so the fact it doesn't have
disc tabs on the Explosif wouldn't bother me. The Explosif frames
if I remember correctly were Columbus Max tubes, and were beautifully done.
Like I said, I will be happy to buy it.
