    shifter replacement advice

    Hello,

I am thinking of replacing the SRAM grip shifter on my sons Trek MT 60 with a Shimano TY22 top mount right 6 speed index shifter. He has a hard time shifting the grip shifter. Is this possible? Is it easy to do?

    Thanks

Not sure this is possible. According to Trek's website the bike has a SRAM 3.0 twist shifter and group. Double checked on SRAMs web site... The SRAM 3.0 is 1:1 activation ratio - so I assume the Shimano shifter would not work.

Also: SRAM 3.0 would be 7/8 gears. Please double check the parts spec.

Funny by the way... many kids bikes use twist shifters because they are easier for kids. No fumbling with a lever, less parts to colide with etc.

If its a 2008, you'll need to replace the rear derailluer with a Shimano one. If its a 2007, it already has a Shimano rear derailluer with a compatable SRAM shifter...so simply switching to the top mount should work fine.
