to rest or not to rest....

Specifically, in 1-4 days before a race or a big epic ride, do you not ride or limit the pace and distance or do you just train through?

Specificaly, for any sport, my coaches have always tapered off workouts heading in. It depends some on your fitness level. If you're in decent shape, you should be able to get a light workout in 2 days out just to keep the muscles working and like vaelin said rest the day before.

if you want to do well, you should taper. i've used a race/big ride as a hard training day before, knowing that i won't do quite as well as if i'd rested/tapered, but it was a killer workout for a more important goal later in the season.
mtbr says you should know: i work in a bike shop.
