remove rear wheel on 2013 Spec Stumpjumper fsr

Hi everyone, I hope I post this in the right place. I just picked up this NOS bike a while ago and was doing some general cleaning. I was not able to get the rear wheel off! i'm new to sram, and haven't ever had a problem with any other bike, but I couldn't seem to get the rear derailleur in the correct position to be able to slip the cassette off of the chain. Any tips? It's a sram x9 derailleur. I tried upload some pics but they keep failing to upload.

    thanks in advance

Shift it into the smallest cog. Depressing that "lock" button will loosen it up to make it easier to swing out of the way.

Methinks he's having problems with the thru axle. That thru axle has to be threaded ALL THE WAY OUT to pull the wheel off. Even once out, the end caps of the hub sit in slots in the frame, so the wheel is still relatively secure. Sometimes I have to thump on the tire to jar things loose. Be careful you don't let it get crooked when removing, because there probably isn't much space between the rotor and the frame, and you may scratch the frame with the rotor.

What mack_turtle says is true, but isn't absolutely necessary.

Thanks so much for the replies. The problem I am having is that once the thru axle is out and i can't straighten the rear derailleur out enough so that the cog doesn't get caught on the upper jockey wheel of the derailleur. I haven't tried it recently as Ive been out of town but thats the issue
