    Brake Lever question

I just got a new Marin Alpine Trail 29er, and was looking into changing the brake levers. It came with Hayes Mx4 disc brakes, and stock levers. I really thought it was an easy upgrade, but I'm finding that not to be true! Do I need to replace the entire lever 'housing', or can I just buy different levers? I'm looking for two finger levers, instead of the full size.

You need a whole new lever.

Alternatively, you can move your brake levers closer to the stem, so you get the amount of lever you want where your fingers are. That's free.

Any suggestions on some moderately priced levers? Will I need a specific type to fit my set-up?

Avid Speed Dial 7 levers are excellent and reasonably priced.

They are pretty straightdorward and simple to swap out. The hardest part may be removing and replacing the grips on the handlebar. Get some lock-on grips as well and the whole thing just got easier:

Me second choice for cheap but good levers would be the Avid FR-5 levers:

Back when v-brakes were still in vogue, they used to make replacement and aftermarket 'blades' (the part of the lever you actually pull on), but since the advent of hydraulic brake systems, replacement blades for mechanical brake systems have mostly gone the way of the do-do bird.

Already went with the ODI's! Really love them.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
