Any Craft Breweries in Ashville, NC & Knoxville, TN

I'm taking a road trip and will be passing through either Ashville, NC or Knoxville, TN around lunchtime (depending on progress). Does anyone have a favorite Brewery in either? I would also like to take a growler away. Food service will not make or break my visit, but might help convincing my wife to make the stop easier.

Ashville is home to Wicked Weed brewery. Absolutely awesome beer with a pretty good selection/variety.

Knoxville has a couple. my wife and i were there on our honeymoon to catch a Vols football game. one is Smoky Mountain Brewery. they are partnered with Calhoun's restaurant, great place to eat. there was i know at least 1 other one but never got to try their beer since they sold taphouse only.

Edit: Saw Works Brewing and Crafy Bastard Brewing are the other 2

I would recommend Highland or green man.

Depending on when you're going, the new New Belgium Brewery will be open. Check out their website for the opening

My sister lives between Asheville and Brevard. There's an Oskar Blues in Brevard and I think Sierra Nevada has opened their new brewery in the area. As far as I know both give tours. Also Asheville has several brew pubs to boast about. Have fun.

Asking if Asheville has any breweries would be like asking if Nashville has country music or Kansas City BBQ, it's almost overwhelming

I recognize there are a plethora of breweries in Asheville, that is why I was asking for a recommendation on which one I should stop at.

See above: "Does anyone have a favorite Brewery?"

Stop at Wicked Weed for beer and lunch and then walk down to Green Man. If you need more hit up Burial which is also in walking distance. If you like sour beers then the Funkatorium is good too.

If you want an impressive tour go to Sierra Nevada. The facility is top notch but you need to get a reservation for the tour months in advance.

We were just in Asheville last week and lucked out with a last minute free tour spot at Sierra Nevada. Certainly worth a shot since people tend to cancel. You can also do the self guided tour upstairs and see pretty much everything at your own pace. Tap room is worth the 20ish min trip from Asheville. So much great stuff there.

Our hotel was walking distance from Hi-Top so I went there a few nights. Pretty good beer (DIPA in particular) and it is across the parking lot from Appalachian Vintners which has a ridiculous selection of bottles plus a bar with about 15 on tap for individual servings or growler fills.
