Look what I just finished ...

Big brother to my Phantom. Parted out my E29 to build this. Started life as the '16 Jenson GX build, which is a pretty solid deal.

Swapped in my Avy'd 160 Pike, 2.5 Minion DHF front and a 2.3 DHRII rear, longer dropper, etc. Short shake-down run this afternoon in the hot Phoenix weather. I'll report back.

Yes, I do still love the Phantom. I'm currently all Banshee in my stable.

I've owned a couple Phantoms, but this is my first Prime. Shocked at how much burlier the frame is. And the Phantom is no wimp.

Honestly, I halfway expected it to weigh a ton and pedal as such. I was pleasantly surprised to find it be snappy and very lively. It pedals very similarly to my Phantom, which is to say very well.

I strongly prefer the middle chip setting and this bike is no exception. But with a 160 fork, it's still pretty slack.

The ride was short as mid-afternoon rides in Phoenix even this time of year can be hot. I forgot to bed in the brakes, which was a fun surprise on the first extended DH section that has a few successive drops with some tight turns. Then the rear mech. cable detensioned itself when I landed a drop, falling down into the smallest rear cog. Fun. And I have some front-to-rear suspension tuning to dial in.

Seems like a super-fun bike, poppy, pedals light. I like it. Another short shakedown tomorrow and I'll hit National trail at South Mountain on Monday.

Most definitely there is a huge difference to me in how much burlier the Prime feels compared to the Phantom anytime I re-build it and take a spin on it, but despite the bit of weight increase, it still pedals awesome and when you point it DH it feels like a Tank.

Another run today and did get the front-rear suspension performance more closely dialed (one click in on compression and two out on rebound on the front Avy damper). Now the rear DBAir CS VX can seems a little, I don't know, wooden by comparison. More tuning to be done. South Mountain tomorrow morning.

Interested in comparisons with the E29 and also to the phantom, as I have time on both but haven't ever ridden a prime.
