What's your opinion of the st james trail in NZ?

For anyone who has ridden the st james trial in NZ, what did you think? Is it easily doable in a day?

I'm an intermediate level cross country rider who will be visiting NZ.

Yip it's a big day but doable for a fit xc rider. It goes through some fantastic country, more about that than the riding quality. If you can, avoid the ride up the road from the "end" to the "start". Will make quite a difference to your day

    What Tanadog said.
Its a great day out. It rained, hailed, boiled, and chilled us on our trip but we still had a great time. (Literally 4 seasons in one day).
You can drive right to the lake skipping the gravel road ride which will help if you are worried about fitness.
The last 20km out of the valley is deceptively hilly and really strained some of our group.
Definitely worth the day trip though.

A lot of other fun little loops in Hanmer too.

My Strava link if its helpful. (however note that I rode back to Hanmer from the homestead so it added a decent extra chunk)
