    Trail Maintenance Workshops around AZ

    Just came in my email:

    From: Annie McVay
Subject: 2006 RTP Trails Maintenance - Call for Projects

2006 RTP Trails Maintenance - Call for Projects

Arizona State Parks is again offering the nonmotorized trail maintenance program supporting trail managers throughout the state. The program, revised based on feedback from the first round, has demonstrated that it fits the needs of most trail managers across the state. The program focuses on trail maintenance based on the priorities identified in the Arizona Trails 2005 Plan and subsequent public involvement. The Arizona State Parks Board allocated approximately $1.1 million dollars for the next two years to improve Arizona's trails. The funds are from the Federal Recreational Trails Program (RTP).

Informational workshops will be held to clarify project types, program structure and any other questions. These workshops will be held in conjunction with the Trails Heritage Fund Grant Application workshops at the following locations and times:

    November 14, 2005 12:00 noon
Avondale City Hall, The Civic Center, 11465 West Civic Center Drive, Avondale, AZ

    November 15, 2005 12:00 noon
Fort Tuthill County Park, I-17 Exit 337 (Airport), Flagstaff, AZ

    November 16, 2005 12:00 noon
Pima County Natural Resources Office, 3500 W. River Road, Tucson, AZ

The trail maintenance requests are due January 20, 2006. Arizona State Parks will check the requests for eligibility and projects will be selected by lottery on January 28, 2006 at the Arizona State Committee on Trails General Meeting.

Pass this opportunity on to people within your organization or other potential partners. If you have open RTP Trails Maintenance projects you are still eligible to apply for this round.

The new contact for the RTP Trails Maintenance Program is

Honestly I don't know much more than what's in the mail. This event is "for" trail managers but this guy Baldwin should probably be the next person to talk to. I suspect you need to work with whomever is the trail manager at the San Tans, if there is one yet, to develop a proposal (presumably strongly pro-bike) and score some of that phat cash to pay for construction and maintenance.
