    Technical help

    Guys/Gals,
    I have a 2000 Specialized stumpjumper comp...........mostly XT parts.

Anyways, I broke my rear derailleur, i actually lost the upper pulley on the derailleur. Its 9 years old, so not that big of a deal, but when I called the bike shop and asked if it were a long/short cage or a top/side pull, they told me it was a regular XT der.

So, what I'm asking is, is there such a thing as a regular derailleur and does it matter if i can't find that part(2-3 weeks to special order one), should i just buy a new derailleur and which one.

Are you running 3 rings? If so, you'll want a long cage der. The rear der's are pretty standard (staying with Shimano) so you can either go with XT or even SLX if you want to save a bit of $. On the other hand, you can just replace that pulley and keep using what you have. Any bike shop will have some old busted der's or parts laying around. Easy fix
