I don't believe registration is even open yet, is it?

In years past I've seen spots available 2-3 weeks from start date...

I've never done tour of the white mountains bit I'm thinking about it this year. I've ridden Los Burros and love the trail.

How does the 50 miler compare with the 35 miler? Much more difficult or more of the same?

I've done the 50 the last two years and signed up for the 35 this year. There is a lot more climbing on the 50 mile route, something like 1,800 feet more. Especially on the four springs connector where there is a really steep mile long section that can be a lot of HAB (at least for me). So I'd say yes, the 50 can be a lot more work. As I remember, the additional trails on the 50 mile route are similar to the 35 mile route if not a little rockier is spots.

The 50 adds about 5 miles of dirt road, then some similar singletrack as was mentioned above. The big (sucky) difference is the steep, loamy HAB to the high point. It is very steep and very loose and is completely unrideable. I hate it, and swear every time that I知 not doing the 50 again.

I知 signed up for 50 SS...again...

    Thanks Walt and Flapjack.

Walt, you're a glutton for punishment. I'm building a single speed now but I don't think I'm strong enough to do that many miles.

I think I'll sign up for the 35 miler this year. I may be able to talk a few of my riding buddies into it as well. I don't think they would concider a 50 miler.

    Thanks again.

    That, I am...

The 35 is a very worthy intro to event. Great course.

Been looking at the course. Will all chatter rocks on the trails, I知 thinking of going plus tires over 29. Thoughts?

I've raced this course the last 5 years. If your talking plus an a HT, you'd be fine. For a FS bike, stick with an efficient 29 tire. The 50 is a beat down for sure, I'll take less weight and rolling. BTW, I own both and will be racing my 429.

I've ridden the 50 on both a 29" HT and a 29" full suspension, both with "regular" tires. The last 12 or so miles on the HT was painful. Chipmunk Connector provided what seemed like an ungodly and relentless jack hammering of my taint. Last year I rode my full suspension, SC Tallboy, and it was much more enjoyable at the end. Riding my Tallboy again this year on the 35.

Not as big of an "event", but a much better mountain bike race and course. Almost all singletrack, and fun trails.
