Yes it's at the intersection of National and Mormon, tell you hiker friends to stay away. It's far to dangerous.

    Holy Crap! Are you serious?

I did get buzzed by a snake Sunday morning on the Mormon loop just above Cardiac Hill and warned a hiker to keep her eyes open.

I've been here in Arizona almost 5 years and outdoors often but have yet to see a snake. I used to see one or two a year in Idaho except on one backpacking trip into a remote, trail-less area of the Owyhee mountains when I saw three in one day.

of course it's for real......why would someone post something on a chat board, in the AZ forum of MTBR which is found on the internet....and have it NOT be real.

    Stop asking stupid questions!

its not real, Cenobite said something to the effect of us not having that kind of snake in arizona and that the pictures originated in New mexico or south dakota or something like that. those pictures have been floating around the internet for quite a while.

as to the story of someone discovering another snake pit and it being in the news, i wouldn't listen/read to much into that. it won't be by any trail you ride on.

That pit may not be at SoMo...

but this one most certainly is. I put up a sign to warn people of their impending doom if they lingered for too long.

Funny how some people see snakes often and some not at all. I rode National for the first time two weeks ago and on my second time two days later I had a little rattler strike at me while riding by and he hit my spokes. The rear tire went right over him. He never rattled until after I ran him over. BTW, running over snakes really pi$$es them off

I've heard of at least 6 to 7 "snake pits" on National, especial around 2pm-6pm on Wednesday and Friday's. I suggest no one going out there around then I will bite the bullet and check the trail for activity please notify and HIKERS as well..............Drew
