    Riding in the rain

What's the etiquette on riding trails in the rain? Is it generally frowned upon because of increased errosion or is riding in the rain acceptable around here?

whether or not it is raining is not the issue for trail damage as much as how wet the ground is or how much rain has come recently.

Best rule of thumb; If you're leaving tracks/ruts then it's too wet. Most of the trails around Phoenix are fine in the rain since there isn't much "soil" here, just sand and rock. Certain areas get really soft though, Tom's Thumb for example...

Most of the valley trails are crushed granite over hardpack and are best enjoyed during a light rain or just after. Super-grippy fun! And most are fine even after a hard rain.

Like Ken said, if your making ruts, the trail is water-logged, which is pretty rare 'round these parts.

I asked this same question about a year ago. The general consensus was that most trails around PHX are fine to ride in the rain. Don't forget you rain jacket!

If you're going to get wet, get WET.
Give up and give in... you won't regret it.
