    Pemberton Night Ride

is this Saturday. The Maricopa County parks are self funded and offer many miles of trails. They offer Mountain Bike specific trails used for races and other events. There are many more miles of trails in the planning stages at all of the couny parks and your entry fees will help fund the construction of those trails. The monthly Pemberton night ride typically draws 80 to 120 riders of all types. I have recently seen some tandem bikes and one family on a tandem with a trail a bike! This is a great social ride and a good introduction to night riding on an easy trail. Details from the MMP website below:

Mountain Bike in the Moonlight - McDowell
    McDowell Mountain Regional Park
The summer night time mountain bike series is set to begin again this month. The award winning Mountain Bike by the Moon Light is a night time ride on the Pemberton Trail (15.4 miles). This summer night riding series is made possible by the series sponsor My Jem, Inc. owned by Kristi Kon. The Pemberton Trail is not very technical; however, night riding will make it more difficult. Helmets and lights will be mandatory on this ride. Only lights designed for use with mountain bikes with at least a 3 hour power source are acceptable. All riders must sign in and out at the trailhead as they start and finish their ride. Everyone needs to be off the trail by 9:30 PM. This is not a guided ride. Volunteers will sweep the course to ensure all riders return safely. For more information call 480-471-0173.
    Date: 8/23/2008
    Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
    Registration Required: No
Fee: $6 per vehicle park entry fee

Great opportunity for a beautiful night ride on a trail that is both fun and relaxing. If you've never done this trail, or never done it at night, suggest giving it a try. I'll be there.

They alsways run it clock wise, I made the suggestion last year to change it counter clock wise one month then clockwise the next, it mixes it up a little. Shame they won't do it, it's still fun and I will be there but hurting because the Flagstaff race is the same day so don't laugh at anyone who may be walking through the sandy washes or up a little hill.

I will be there. I will most likely do a pre night ride leaving the Pemberton trailhead at 4pm. Heading out Pemberton > Dixie Mine/Coachwhip/Windgate/Bell Pass/Prospector/Dixie mine back to Pemberton trailhead. Take a break from 6 to 7:30 then head out for the night ride. The pace will be from slow to slower if anyone wants to join me for the pre ride climb.

I felt like crap on the bike last night anyway. Good thing I did not compound my crappiness by doing a longer ride!
