Out of towners looking for the local tour and shuttle buddies...

We're making an escape from our frozen little world. Fruita and Grand Junction are cold snow covered and not thawing soon! We're going to hit Bootleg for a couple of days and then head down to Phoenix. We'd like to shuttle South Mountain and maybe meet up with some locals for some good trail tours. Anybody want to help? We'd be happy to return the favor if anyone ever wants to come visit western Colorado. We'll be rolling into Phoenix on the 28th or 29th of January.

We should have a wednesday and friday shuttle of SOMO happening (early morning, no traffic). . .check the threads. . . as you can tell from other threads stay away from SOMO shuttling on the weekends

Other than the shuttles, what are you looking for and on what days?

Id be happy to take you on a ride out in T100. . . lots of fun sections to link in there. Im coming off an injury but I'll be golden by the week that your here. The ride is chunky xc/am and then you can link in a few gnar sections, and can be made as short or as long as you like. PM me if your interested in this, also where will you be staying.

There are tons of other great rides out here, and plenty of riders willing to show you around, its basically your pick and dependent upon your location. Id be happy to ride the Hawes system with you as well we can link it up to a semi known FR area, if permission is granted. . . ? Clock?

Checking it out from the takeoff, the biggest problem seems to be that the landing is very shallow and short for how high/far you go. Seems like it would be a pretty rough landing. Ground is pretty soft there, but still...

The gap isn't huge, compared to the super booter @ Candy. But it drops quite a bit at the same time. The takeoff jump is pretty small, which makes sense, as you really don't need to go UP at all, just down and out.

    Sorry, we're good at hijack's

But pretty much any of the guys who were involved can show you the "goods".

That or hit up Cactus Bike in Ahwatukee (1 mile from South Mountain) and some of the crew there can point you in the right direction

Any shuttling today or tomorrow? We rode south mountain yesterday, it was sick! All of us are struggling for motivation today - our legs are like mush b/c of all the riding we've been doing!

I shuttled early this morning, and am unfortunately stuck behind a desk for the rest of the day.

There is a pump track party tonight at Fish's place (works at Cactus) If you stop in there and ask either Steve-O or James, they can give you the low down on that.

Also, if you guys have a vehicle and a group with you, you could do Geronimo shuttles all day long and alternate drivers.

Geronimo drops straight off a the Buena Vista lookout (Head towards the bench overlooking the city) and ends up at 19th St and Dobbins Rd, which is a Boy Scout Camp.

Great DH run, takes about the same amount of time for the riders and shuttle to get down.

35-40? try 50-60! Its the only way to keep the roadies motivated. If the tires aren't squealing then you aren't going fast enough!

Hell, the bus does 35-40 up and down that road with the trailer attached

I am so psyched to come out to Arizona and ride South Mountain! Thetreadway and I will be in Phoenix on Tuesday, riding wednesday and thursday. If anybody's willing, PM either of us a phone number so we can get in touch to find out when and where we can link up with you guys for some shuttling- we might not have easy internet access from the road.
TruckeeTrash- (are you from truckee?) we'd love to check out the T100 trails on Thursday or maybe even wednesday after shuttling.

    Shuttling South Mountain tomorrow AM

    So...
Thetreadway and I are finally in town and are psyched to get out there tomorrow a.m. Is anyone doing shuttle runs tomorrow? We've got a truck and so can help out running bikes or people. PM me with a phone number if anyone is willing and we'll meet you in the morning! Also- I am wondering if the "shuttles" that you guys do on south mountain are doable on a big DH bike or are they too pedally for that?

You'll be fine on a big bike.
