As of the last weekend in Dec, it wasn't marked, but the whole course was open to ride. You just have to know/remember where to turn, and open/close a few cattle gates.

There's some nice people who camp there from Oct - March and maintain the trails, so they may have started marking it since we were there.
    Ride more; post less...

That is the problem, the one and only time that I rode it it was dark, and I was hypothermic so I don't remember it all that well. That is except for the B1tches that is .

If you go on a weekend, there are so many people there pre-riding, there is no way you could get lost. I was there last Saturday, and there must have been 20 carloads of people training.

Do I still need a land use permit when I go to pre-ride the course?

Not sure how much the fine is, but here's how to get one:

I now epic rides has a map on there site http://www.epicrides.com/twofour/24course.htm. I agree if you go out on a weekend there will be a ton of riders so if at anytime you feel lost you can just stop and wait. Also I heard that they have been out there checking for passes lately which is usually the case in month leading up to the ride. Its just ridiculous how much they raised the price of that thing.

Yes, the ranger will catch you. I have been riding in the area scouting out routes for the Antelope Peak Challenge and I see the ranger frequently. If you go out there to ride, I strongly suggest buying the permit unless you want to get fined.

    Pre-ride

I was passing through two months back and made a pre-ride video. Yes it's the first video I've made so it's not the best and I was out there alone. Make sure you click on the "watch in high quality".

HOLEY CARP $50 FOR A PERMIT!!!!!! Does anyone want to rent out their permit for a weekend? I don't want to get fined, but I don't have $50 to spend for 1 day of usage.

I will rent you mine for $50 or just go out there a few days before the race when everyone can ride it w/o a permit.

Well, starting the Thursday before the race, you can ride out there without a permit, because Epic Rides has purchased an event permit. So if you're just looking to get familiar with the course, just do a pre-ride on Thursday or Friday.
