    Old Pueblo 19

Anyone signed up to do the 24hr race? I'm doing it with a 4man team looking to probably do 4 laps then just hydrate with malted hops and barley.

Right on, I've seen some video of the course seems nice and mellow (coming from Norcal). Also my first 24hr event, pretty stoked looks like a good time. Any advice?

It is pretty mellow. Big things are:

cactus, especially cholla, bring a comb and tweezers

If you donít sleep well with noise, bring ear plugs

    Bring water, lots of water

Food is available but not always for the full 24hrs, bring some food

    Have fun!

Anyone done this on a singlespeed? I'm riding with a corporate team so it's more for fun than anything, not looking to be competitive I just want to survive and have a good time.

I have done this race the past 3 years. I did it on 4 and 5 person teams on a geared HT. I would have no issues doing it SS, but it is a fast course. My geared average was 14 to 15 mph. So gear up. There is a section with some short steep gas pipeline climbs. They are short and you can run up from the otherside so don't need a easy gear for these.

    Lots of turns.

I didn't even realize it was like that, my buddy had invited me and then I got a text in the AM saying it wasn't looking like we were getting a slot but he sat there on refresh and made it happen.

He said a few years ago Lance and his cronies showed up and it got way bigger. I'm just looking forward to something different

Yes Lance was there the last 2 year. He made big push for a win 2017 and came up short. In 2018 they took it easy when one guy got sick and did not push hard. I have no idea if they will be back in 2019. It is a fun event, but given the increased cost for 2019 and the fact that I have done it 3 years in a row I did not try for 2019

    1. Do go to the party at the Whiskey Tree on Friday night.
    2. Do come party and heckle people at the Drunkcyclist camp at any time.
    3. Don't expect to get much sleep if you actually camp within earshot of the Drunkcyclist camp.
    4. If you're sober enough to ride a lap after dark absolutely do it!
    5. Stopping at the Whiskey Tree is mandatory (at least) once per lap.
    6. Bring all your best rain gear.
    7. Try not to crash into any cactus.
    8. Carry a pick or comb for when you do crash into a cactus.
    9. Don't be a dick!
    10. Have fun!

What, your Strava KOMs didn't get you in with a free entry?

Clearly the event will not be the same without your presence, they might as well cancel it at this point!

They dont need to cancel the event, they need to just have a race to go with it. Make a drunk people loop or something, go ride in circles and act dumb so people racing can race, at a race, racing, imagine that. I dont recall seeing any drunk people on course in any races i did this year.

I'm taking this year off. I've done 6 man teams a couple times, 4 man teams a couple times been team captain, last year did co-ed duo with my wife. It's a fun event Im just gonna take a break and do a different event. But I have friends participating so I'm still gonna go down there.

Friday night is pretty crazy but once the event starts its pretty crazy. Sat night can die down though

I'm not one for riding long distance hungover, rather save it for post ride.
