Cool-blue Rhythm Night Ride in Papago Park.

Being in the a/c business I'm at work at 6:00am and don't finish the day until around 6:00pm or later this time of year. I did get my new bike and have been trying to hit Papago a few times a week working on skills and lungs. Well its still warm at that time of the day and was wondering if the gate is locked on the west parking lot at night or could I do a night ride without any hassle. Or even a late evening to night ride when the temp drops a little. I'm really enjoying this sport and working on the endurance so I can hit a group ride or one of the sponsored night rides.

Not sure if the gate is locked I try to avoid papago after dark but if it is closed you can enter by the rock stadium on the east bound traffic side of McDowell rd. just west of galvin pkwy. There is a little area where you can park too off to the side. Have fun!

I noticed in the Fat Tire Trail Guide they also mentioned Papago had some seedy people after night falls. Is it really that bad and if so is there a suggestion a person wanting to work on skills and stuff could go after dark? Papago may be the easiest place around town but it still gets my heart going at this point. So for me, it would be nice to find a place that's not just all climbs and downhills at this point.

Some guys from Adventure bikes do a group ride at Papago every Wednesday night around 7:00. They meet at that park off of curry and 68th st (college?). It might be a good idea to call their shop to verify the time/ location but I think the info is correct.

Travelling really is not to much of a concern other then the time factor. Papago is on the way home from work and 10 minutes from the house. Guess I could just ride there and not worry about the gate! I do want to try some other trails and I guess that only way to learn them is to get out and ride them a few times!

    Since when?

You must be talking about the every 3 month deal where the park lets people ride at night.

As far as I know all Maricopa parks close at 8pm.

Papago is a City of PHX park. They have some info on night rides on the board in the parking lot off Galvin Pkwy. I dont remember any specifics.

If you were wanting to ride at night I would ride the east side area, behind the dirt jumps. Sounds like thats where the Adventure group meets.

I think the seedy people usually cruise the Buttes looking for a place to drink and smoke, probably mostly juvies, but you never know.

I was over there a month ago and talking to some park ranger. He was telling me they do it all the time. I don't night ride so i wasn't paying too much attention. My info may very well be wrong then.

My apologies for the lack of response. My company is going thu a MAJOR reorganization so things are kind of crazy right now. At the same time, the smell in the Nissan is getting crazier too. Will PM you soon to set up a time to hook up. Stu
