    New Pedals time ...

I just destroyed my Crank Bro's by smashing it on a bolder at the bottom of Quartz (gave me a little toss as well ) ...

Recommendations ? Something that does not require a second mortgage please

I don't do times personally, but there's no way they can be as bad as Crank Brothers.

Shimano 520/540s are great XC pedals with good mud-clearing ability.

I'm on my second set of SPD 520s, which I think are quite good for the price. However, my next set of pedals will be Time Atacs. The amount of lateral float that Shimano pedals have is starting to tweak my knees.

Never had an issue with any of my Time pedals. The Carbons do have an adjustment screw but not really needed and they are costly! Biggest issue with Time's is the brass cheats can wear a little fast. Still cheaper to replace a cheat than a set of pedals!!

    Gotta say Time as well

I blew up two pairs of mallets before switching to Times. I run times that I got at the Tucson GABA swap for $5. Either Time pedals or flats; depends on the trail.

I have the shimano 520's and they're giving me problems after 2 years of hard riding.
I still have functioning ritchey's and shimanos from the last 20 years and these 520s are the first ones to give trouble.
Frog speedplay cleats only lasted me 3 months, and they cost 40 dollars.. (they worked AWESOME for like 1 month after putting new cleats on) Too bad.

i got times on my big bike and spds on my little one. the times take way more abuse and require almost no maintenance, and i never pop out. i spend 2-3x maintaining the ones that allegedly get less abuse, and i pop out too much.

By the way, what's the difference between Atacs and Roc Atacs? Anyone know?

I run the Time Z pedals. The pedal is not the lightest so itís not right for the weight weenie crowd. They can take all they abuse I throw at them and I break almost everything I use. The platform is large so you can unclip and use them as flats if things get really sketchy. The only drawback I have found with the Z pedal is they pack the bearings really tight with grease so there is a short break-in period until they spin freely.

They have a lower spring tension than standard Time pedals.

I've used pretty much all brands and types and keep coming back to Time Atac carbon. They are worth the cost when you figure the number of times you have to buy eggbeaters to replace the one's that break, or just stop working.
